More about this book

Story

In a future nation built from the ruins of North America, the Capitol controls twelve districts by forcing them into an annual televised fight to the death. When Katniss Everdeen's younger sister is chosen, Katniss volunteers in her place and is thrown into a brutal contest she may be able to survive only by thinking faster than everyone else.

As Katniss is taken to the Capitol, she must navigate training, sponsors, interviews, alliances, and the demands of being watched by millions. Her survival skills help, but the Games reward performance as much as strength, and she is pushed into public image games, strategic choices, and a fake romance that may help her live.

Inside the arena, Katniss must balance instinct, loyalty, fear, and compassion while other tributes become threats, rivals, or unlikely allies. The story builds toward a final struggle in which the rules, the audience, and the Capitol itself all become part of the danger.
