Story
In a future Chicago divided into five factions, sixteen-year-olds must choose the group that will define the rest of their lives. Beatrice, raised in the selfless faction, discovers that she does not fit neatly into one category and makes a choice that separates her from her family and drops her into a harsh new world.
As she trains with her new faction, Beatrice must survive brutal initiation tests, shifting alliances, and constant pressure to hide the truth about who she is. The more she learns about her new life, the more she senses that the society around her is not as stable as it claims to be.
Her secret status becomes increasingly dangerous as tensions rise between factions and hidden agendas come to light. While she fights to belong, Beatrice also has to decide who she can trust, what she is willing to lose, and how far she will go to protect the people she cares about.
