More about this book

Story

On the day of the fiftieth annual Hunger Games, District 12 is forced into a brutal Quarter Quell in which twice as many tributes are taken. Haymitch Abernathy is reaped and sent to the Capitol with other District 12 tributes, while worrying about his family and the girl he loves.

The story follows the familiar Games progression from reaping through preparation, training, and the arena, while showing the pressure of Capitol spectacle, propaganda, and sponsorship. Along the way, Haymitch’s connections, loyalties, and losses deepen the sense that he has been set up to fail.

As the Games unfold, Haymitch’s choices and resistance carry consequences that reach beyond the arena. The book emphasizes how the experience shapes his future self, revealing the emotional cost of survival and the long shadow the Games leave behind.
