More about this book
Story
Gregor, an 11-year-old boy in New York City, is carrying adult responsibilities at home when his toddler sister Boots falls through a laundry-room grate. He follows her and lands in the Underland, a dark subterranean world of giant rats, cockroaches, bats, spiders, and humans who have lived below ground for generations.
In the Underland, Gregor learns that people believe he is linked to an old prophecy and that his arrival is tied to an unfolding conflict. As he tries to understand the world around him, he is drawn into a quest that may lead to his missing father, who may still be alive somewhere below ground.
Gregor wants only to get home, but the journey forces him to navigate alliances, danger, and war while protecting his sister and confronting what loyalty, courage, and growing up mean. The story follows his reluctant role in events that are bigger than he is, while the Underland’s future hangs in the balance.
