Firefight

After killing Steelheart, David Charleston’s mission shifts from revenge to something wider and harder to define: stopping the Epics who rule what remains of the world. He and a new Reckoners team head to a flooded former New York City, where a powerful Epic named Regalia controls the city and seems to be drawing them in.

In this strange, waterlogged city, David has to navigate new allies, new enemies, and new questions about what Epics are and whether they can be understood, resisted, or saved. At the same time, he is pulled toward Firefight, the girl tied to both his feelings and the mystery surrounding the city.

As the Reckoners dig deeper, hidden motives, shifting loyalties, and deeper truths about powers and weaknesses come to light. The mission grows more dangerous, the stakes rise, and David is forced to rethink the black-and-white worldview he once lived by as the story pushes toward a major confrontation and an unresolved ending.
