More about this book

Story

Arthur Dent’s ordinary life is interrupted when Earth is demolished, and he’s whisked away into space by Ford Prefect, who has a role connected to a galaxy guide. Their escape launches a long chain of improbable adventures across planets, ships, and strange civilizations.

The collection follows Arthur and a recurring ensemble through a series of increasingly bizarre, often episodic journeys involving interstellar travel, guidebook lore, and a search for answers about existence. The books mix quest elements, shifting set pieces, and recurring comic bits as the characters bounce through space and time.

Across the five novels and the included short story, the series keeps returning to questions about meaning, order, and the absurdity of the universe. Reader comments suggest the first book is the most focused and that later installments vary in pace, coherence, darkness, and payoff.
