More about this book

Story

In a devastated future Earth, most people have left for off-world colonies while survivors live amid dust, kipple, and scarce real animals. Rick Deckard works as a bounty hunter assigned to retire escaped androids who have returned illegally from Mars.

As Deckard pursues increasingly humanlike androids, he relies on empathy-based testing and begins to doubt the line between human and machine. His work is entangled with status anxiety, a desire for a real animal, and a life shaped by artificial emotional controls.

The hunt widens into a meditation on identity, religion, and what counts as real feeling. Alongside the android pursuit, the story follows a damaged world where empathy, ownership, and belonging have become central measures of value.
