More about this book

Story

A mysterious black monolith appears at key moments in human history, first in prehistory and later on the Moon, suggesting an outside hand in human development. Its presence appears tied to a leap in intelligence, tool use, and the long arc of human evolution.

When a new signal points toward Saturn, a spacecraft and its crew are sent on a secret mission to investigate. Onboard, the astronauts must work alongside a powerful artificial intelligence while handling isolation, technical procedures, and the growing uncertainty of what they are traveling toward.

As the voyage pushes deeper into the unknown, the story turns increasingly philosophical and abstract, moving from scientific explanation toward larger questions about life, consciousness, and humanity's place in the universe. The ending is portrayed by readers as startling, expansive, and open to interpretation.
