More about this book

Story

An Arctic expedition becomes the frame for a stranger’s account of obsession, discovery, and catastrophe. Through letters and nested testimony, the novel moves from the outer voyage into the inner history of a brilliant young scientist whose experiment changes everything.

At the center is the creation of a living being from lifeless matter, followed by the creator’s horror and retreat. The created being then tells its own story of learning, rejection, loneliness, and a desperate search for companionship and recognition.

The tale closes as creation and creator are locked together in grief, guilt, and pursuit. Along the way, the book uses remote landscapes, philosophical reflection, and retrospective narration to build its tragic momentum.
