Story
In Victorian London, lawyer Gabriel Utterson becomes concerned by his friend Dr. Jekyll’s strange will and his connection to the disturbing Mr. Hyde. What begins as a social mystery turns into a search for the truth behind a series of unsettling incidents, assaults, and a murder.
As Utterson and other acquaintances piece together clues from conversations, documents, and observations, Hyde’s presence grows more ominous and Jekyll becomes increasingly withdrawn. The story withholds its central explanation for as long as possible, building tension through rumor, secrecy, and fragments of testimony.
The final revelations come through letters and a written confession, reframing the earlier events as the result of a self-experiment that split Jekyll’s nature into conflicting selves. The narrative closes by exposing the cost of trying to separate good from evil and of losing control over that experiment.
