More about this book

Story

Edward Prendick survives a shipwreck and is taken aboard a vessel carrying animals and a strange crew toward a remote Pacific island. There he encounters Montgomery, Dr. Moreau, and an unsettling population of hybrid beings that seem partly animal and partly human.

As Prendick learns what Moreau has been doing, the island’s rules, hierarchy, and religion begin to make disturbing sense. The story builds around hidden experiments, recurring sounds of suffering, and the pressure of living among beings forced to obey a law they do not fully understand.

The novel follows Prendick’s escalating fear and eventual struggle to survive as the island’s fragile order breaks down. What remains is a dark account of scientific cruelty, animal instinct, and the unstable line between civilization and savagery.
