More about this book

Story

A geology professor discovers an encoded manuscript that appears to point to a secret route into the Earth. Determined to test the clue, he sets off with his reluctant nephew and a steadfast guide, beginning a journey that quickly becomes an expedition into the unknown.

Their route takes them from the surface into volcanic passageways, then deeper into caverns, underground waters, and a vast subterranean realm. Along the way they face darkness, scarcity, confusion, and other dangers while encountering astonishing natural wonders and signs of ancient life.

As the descent continues, the story turns into a sequence of survival trials and discoveries that keep challenging what the travelers think they know about geology and the world beneath their feet. The journey eventually reverses direction in dramatic fashion, bringing the group back to the surface after their underground ordeal.
