More about this book

Story

A child is born into the middle of a brutal galactic conflict, and her narration frames the story of how her parents came to be hunted by nearly everyone around them. Her mother and father are ex-soldiers from opposite sides of a long war, and their relationship is forbidden by both of their peoples.

As they try to protect their newborn and find a place to live in peace, the couple is pursued by soldiers, bounty hunters, assassins, and other strange forces moving through a bizarre, fully imagined universe. Their journey moves through alien worlds, political conflict, and encounters with surreal characters and creatures.

The volume sets up a larger serial story, introducing a wide cast, multiple threats, and a mix of danger, humor, and intimacy. It emphasizes the family's bond and their struggle to survive in a universe that seems determined to keep them apart.
