More about this book

Story

The volume follows a young family on the run through an interstellar conflict: two lovers from opposing sides, their baby daughter, and the enemies chasing them across space. As they try to keep the child safe, the story brings in new pursuers, new allies, and the couple’s families.

A major part of the narrative looks backward to show how the central couple first met and why they chose each other. These flashbacks deepen the emotional stakes while the present-day storyline keeps the family moving, hiding, and reacting to new complications.

The volume also broadens the cast and shifts some attention to relationships rather than constant action. Readers repeatedly noted scenes with in-laws, exes, a babysitter, a truth-telling cat, and other strange figures, while the larger conflict between war, love, and survival continues to build.
