More about this book
Story
In an alternate-history 1980s, masked vigilantes once changed the world, but public distrust and new laws pushed most of them into retirement. When one of their own is killed, the remaining former heroes are drawn into an investigation that quickly becomes larger than a single murder.
As the inquiry unfolds, the book moves through multiple timelines and layers of backstory, revealing how each character became who they are and why they responded differently to power, violence, and responsibility. Interwoven documents, diary entries, and a story-within-the-story deepen the mystery and connect the present-day plot to past events.
The investigation exposes a wider conspiracy set against Cold War fear and the threat of nuclear catastrophe. Each revelation forces the characters and readers to confront questions about morality, sacrifice, and whether saving the world can ever justify terrible acts.
