More about this book

Story

The book follows two connected searches for the elusive Second Foundation, the secret group meant to protect a long-term plan for civilization’s future. In the first half, the Mule hunts for that hidden society while the Second Foundation counters him through strategy, misdirection, and mental power.

In the second half, the First Foundation also goes looking for the Second Foundation, fearing its influence and wanting to expose or destroy it. A younger character becomes central to that search, and the story shifts into a web of suspicion, clues, and competing interpretations of who is controlling whom.

Across both parts, the novel builds toward revelations about the Second Foundation’s purpose, location, and role in the larger plan. The narrative keeps returning to questions about prediction, manipulation, and whether a hidden guardian can protect civilization without becoming another kind of threat.
