More about this book

Story

Kira is a young orphan in a harsh future village where people with disabilities and other “undesirables” are cast out. After her mother dies, she faces losing her home and life until her skill with weaving and embroidery gives her a place under the village’s protection.

As Kira settles into this new role, she works on an important ceremonial robe and becomes close to other gifted children and a few trusted companions. The more she learns about the village, its leaders, and the purpose of its traditions, the more she suspects that what seems protective is also controlling.

Kira’s growing understanding of the world around her leads her toward hidden truths about her family, her society, and the meaning of her gift. The story builds toward a reveal about the village’s foundations and leaves her facing a difficult choice about what to do with what she has learned.
