More about this book

Story

After a space satellite returns to Earth and a nearby Arizona town is found dead, the U.S. government activates a secret emergency response to determine what happened. A small team of scientists is taken to an underground containment facility and ordered to identify the organism, understand its behavior, and stop any spread.

The story follows the investigation as a procedural scientific crisis: tests, theories, protocols, decontamination, and escalating pressure. As the team works through clues and failures, the danger widens beyond the town and the scientists must balance research, containment, and the possibility of catastrophic escalation.

The narrative is told in a report-like, retrospective mode that emphasizes process and technical detail over conventional drama. The suspense comes from the unknown nature of the organism, the secrecy surrounding the operation, and the race to prevent a wider disaster before the containment system fails.
