More about this book

Story

After a Mars mission is forced to abort, astronaut Mark Watney is left behind and presumed dead. Alone on the planet, he must survive with limited supplies, broken equipment, and no immediate way to contact Earth.

The story follows his efforts in detailed mission-log form as he improvises solutions, applies science, and tries to keep himself alive long enough for NASA to figure out he survived. His situation repeatedly worsens, but each setback becomes another problem to solve.

Intercut with Mark’s logs are Earth-side and crew-side perspectives that show the rescue effort building. The narrative stays focused on survival, ingenuity, and the effort to bring him home.
