More about this book

Story

In a future where disease, aging, hunger, and natural death have been overcome, humanity lives under the guidance of an all-knowing AI while a separate order called the Scythedom controls population growth through sanctioned killing. Death is no longer natural; it is administered.

Citra and Rowan, two teenagers who never wanted the role, are chosen to apprentice under a respected scythe. As they learn the rules, traditions, and morality of gleaning, they are drawn into a competition where only one can ultimately succeed. Their training forces them to confront duty, compassion, power, and the question of what kind of person can wield death responsibly.

As they move deeper into the world of scythes, the order’s internal corruption and competing philosophies come into focus. The story builds toward escalating conflict, shifting loyalties, and unexpected turns, with the apprentices caught between honorable ideals and those who want death used without restraint.
