More about this book

Story

Essun has found shelter in an underground community, but her daughter is still missing and the world around her is still breaking. As she tries to survive and understand the forces shaping this apocalyptic age, she is drawn back toward Alabaster and the buried knowledge he wants her to learn.

At the same time, Nassun’s journey is shown in parallel, revealing what happened to her after she was taken by her father and pushed toward a place that promises to change her. Her path exposes the emotional cost of prejudice, fear, and control, while also widening the story’s view of orogeny, the obelisks, and the fractured world they inhabit.

The book moves between revelations, backstory, and converging threads, deepening the larger mystery of the Seasons and the people trying to survive them. It builds toward a larger confrontation while filling in key missing pieces about the characters’ relationships, their power, and the fate of the world.
