More about this book

Story

John Smith is one of nine alien children who escaped a destroyed homeworld and came to Earth with adult protectors. They hide in plain sight, changing identities and moving often, because enemy aliens are hunting the children in numbered order.

When the story begins, three of the nine are already dead, and John knows he is next. In a new town, he tries to blend in at school, make friends, and live like a normal teenager while his powers begin to surface and his enemies close in.

As John builds a life on Earth, he grows attached to the people around him and is pulled toward romance, friendship, and danger. The pressure to stay hidden clashes with the need to survive, and the book builds toward an action-heavy confrontation that sets up the larger series conflict.
