More about this book

Story

Earth has been devastated by successive alien attacks, leaving Cassie Sullivan alone and on the run while trying to stay alive long enough to find her younger brother. She keeps a diary-like account of what happened before and after the invasion, using memory and present danger to piece together the world around her.

As Cassie travels through a ruined landscape, she encounters strangers whose motives are unclear, including a mysterious boy who may be her best chance at survival. Other viewpoints widen the story, showing different survivors caught in military-style training, uncertainty, and the struggle to tell human from alien.

The narrative builds through shifting perspectives, flashbacks, and converging plotlines until the larger pattern behind the invasions starts to emerge. Cassie must decide whom to trust while the next wave approaches and the fight for survival becomes a fight for what remains of humanity.
