More about this book

Story

Will, bearer of the subtle knife, is tasked by his dying father to deliver a dangerous weapon to Lord Asriel. But Lyra has vanished, and the search for her draws Will into a widening conflict among angels, witches, and competing powers across many worlds.

As the struggle escalates, the story follows multiple paths: Lyra’s captivity and recovery, Mary Malone’s separate journey, and the movements of allies and enemies scattered across parallel realities. The plot builds toward a confrontation with the forces that govern the worlds and toward discoveries about Dust, the dead, and the meaning of choice.

The final movement brings the main characters into a larger struggle over authority, freedom, and what should happen to the dead. Alongside the battles and revelations, the book centers the emotional passage from childhood to adulthood, especially through Lyra and Will’s bond and the consequences of their choices.
