More about this book
Story
In the aftermath of an uneasy stalemate between humanity and an alien civilization, Earth enjoys a brief age of prosperity powered by borrowed knowledge and the threat of mutual destruction. Into this fragile balance steps Cheng Xin, an aerospace engineer awakened from hibernation, carrying knowledge tied to an old program that could alter what happens next.
As centuries pass, the story moves through major eras of human survival, technological change, and escalating cosmic danger. The novel follows shifting human responses to deterrence, discovery, and fear, while also using stories, scientific speculation, and high-concept turns to widen the scale from planetary politics to reality-bending possibilities.
The narrative grows increasingly expansive and unstable as it pushes beyond ordinary spacefaring conflict into questions of dimensionality, extinction, and what it means for a civilization to endure. Human choices, alien pressure, and the logic of the universe keep colliding until the book’s final movement becomes a large-scale reckoning with survival, loss, and whatever comes after.
