After the events of the previous book, Katy is taken captive while Daemon will do anything to get her back. Their rescue effort pulls them into a secret facility, where tests, danger, and hard truths force both of them to keep moving even when escape seems impossible.

Inside the facility, Katy is pushed to survive and adapt while learning unsettling information about the people holding her and the larger conflict around aliens, hybrids, and Origins. Daemon follows a parallel path, risking everything to reach her and making choices that raise the stakes for his family, his people, and the wider world.
