Story

After Juliette escapes the Reestablishment base, Warner is left recovering from a gunshot wound and trying to keep his soldiers under control. He also has to suppress talk of rebellion in his sector while still fixating on finding Juliette and dealing with the people who helped her get away.

As Warner moves through his duties, the novella shows his private thoughts, his reactions to Juliette's journal and files, and the gap between how he appears and what he feels. His past, his code, and the reasons behind some of his harsher choices come into clearer view.

The pressure escalates when Warner's father arrives, forcing a harsher confrontation over Juliette and over Warner's failures in the eyes of his superiors. The story ends by deepening the tension around Warner's motives, his obsession, and the possibility of change.
