More about this book

Story

The story continues directly from the previous volume with Lusitania under threat and multiple intertwined crises still unresolved. A fleet is approaching to destroy the planet, while Jane, a sentient computer intelligence, is losing access to the network that sustains her and may need a human body to survive.

At the same time, the characters split across planets and agendas: some try to influence political power, some search for answers about the virus and the strange transformations in their world, and others struggle with identity, loyalty, and relationships. The narrative stays close to conversations, arguments, and philosophical reflection as the characters work through what survival, personhood, and duty mean.

As the pressures build, the book moves toward a conclusion that tries to resolve the main series conflicts while also transforming the characters’ sense of self and connection. The result is framed by readers as a final, closely connected half of a larger story, with closure for some threads and lingering questions for others.
