More about this book
Story
Millennia after the earlier events in the series, Arrakis has changed dramatically and the galactic empire is ruled by Leto II, now a long-lived, sandworm-like god-emperor. His reign is absolute, his control over spice and politics immense, and his justification for tyranny rests on a long-term plan meant to secure humanity’s future.
Against this enforced order, a rebellion forms, centered on Siona and other dissenters who oppose Leto’s rule. Much of the book follows conversations, confrontations, and records as Leto explains, obscures, and tests those around him, especially through his journals and his dealings with familiar returning figures.
As the story advances, the balance between oppression and salvation becomes clearer, along with the cost of Leto’s Golden Path. The novel moves toward revelations about control, survival, and the future of humanity, while leaving readers to grapple with the consequences of a ruler who has shaped an entire civilization for thousands of years.
