More about this book

Story

A mysterious event breaks the moon into pieces, and scientists realize the fragments will eventually create a long-lasting bombardment that will sterilize Earth’s surface. With only a short window to act, governments, scientists, engineers, and astronauts race to build an orbital survival system around the International Space Station and preserve enough people, tools, and biological material to keep humanity alive.

The story follows the brutal logistics, political choices, technical challenges, and human costs of turning space into a refuge. As the crisis worsens, the survivors must improvise, cooperate, and endure escalating dangers while the Earth becomes increasingly uninhabitable and the number of people who can be saved remains tiny.

After a large time jump of thousands of years, the narrative moves to a transformed future Earth and the descendants of the early survivors. The final section explores what humanity became after generations of adaptation, new social structures, and biological change, as people return to a world remade by catastrophe and time.
