More about this book

Story

Commander Sam Vimes is chasing a dangerous killer when a magical accident throws both men thirty years into Ankh-Morpork’s past. There, Vimes is forced into the role of a murdered mentor, taking on an identity that will let history continue to unfold.

As unrest grows and revolution looms, Vimes must navigate a lawless, corrupt city while also guiding the younger version of himself toward becoming the copper he knows he must be. The story folds police work, political upheaval, and personal history into a tightly interlocked time-travel problem.

The central pressure is simple and cruel: if Vimes changes too much, he may erase the life he came from. He has to survive the past, keep the city from collapsing, and somehow ensure that the future he loves still exists when he gets back.
