More about this book

Story

After a plague kills most of America’s children, the survivors begin developing strange powers and are sent to government rehabilitation camps. Ruby, who has hidden a dangerous ability for years, escapes one of these camps and goes on the run.

Ruby joins a small group of other escaped kids as they travel through a dangerous, unstable America searching for safety. Along the way, she tries to keep her true power secret while dealing with trust, fear, and growing feelings for the group’s leader.

When the group reaches a supposed safe haven, Ruby learns that new threats are waiting there too. As different factions try to claim or control her, she is forced into increasingly hard choices about survival, loyalty, and what it means to protect the people she cares about.
