More about this book

The Story

A young boy joins his class on a field trip to the top of the Empire State Building in New York City. When fog and clouds obscure the view, he encounters a playful cloud that separates him from the group and carries him upward.

The cloud brings him to a hidden sky place where clouds are organized, assigned, and shaped before being sent out. The boy discovers that the clouds are bored with their usual forms, and he responds by sketching new, imaginative shapes for them.

His drawings transform the clouds into fantastical sea creatures and other surprising forms, upsetting the workers in charge but delighting the clouds. The boy is eventually sent back, but the cloud friendship and the altered sky remain visible to everyone below.
