A Wizard Abroad
Sent to Ireland for a break from magic, a teen wizard finds the land itself is under mythic threat.
First published 2005 · Young Wizards
The Story
Nita Callahan is sent to Ireland for the summer, partly to get her away from wizardly work and away from her partner Kit. She stays with an aunt in a place where the old stories feel close to the surface, and where local magic operates differently than it does at home.
What looks like a vacation turns into a new crisis as Irish myths, creatures, and layered magical forces start pressing into ordinary reality. Nita meets other wizards, learns more about how wizardry works in this region, and gets pulled into a larger struggle involving dangerous powers, folk legend, and the fate of the land itself.
As events intensify, Nita is no longer just observing from the side. She has to work with an expanded circle of allies, balance family expectations with wizarding responsibility, and navigate new emotional and romantic complications while helping confront the threat gathering over Ireland.
