More about this book

Story

Bill Masen wakes in a hospital with bandaged eyes and quickly realizes that something has gone terribly wrong outside. A dazzling green celestial event has left most of the world blind, and the sudden breakdown of order turns cities into dangerous places for anyone who can still see.

As Bill moves through London and beyond, he encounters other sighted survivors, shifting groups with competing ideas about how people should live now. The novel follows his efforts to survive, find allies, and make sense of the new social order as fear, scarcity, and violence spread.

Meanwhile, the triffids — mobile carnivorous plants with lethal stings — take advantage of humanity’s weakness and begin to threaten both blind and sighted alike. The story becomes a struggle over survival, responsibility, and what kind of society can be rebuilt after catastrophe.
