The Story

The Empire renews its assault on Collegium and its allies, forcing defenders to improvise against stronger armies, new weapons, and shifting battlefield tactics. The conflict widens across the Lowlands, with large-scale war, sieges, aerial combat, and political strain pushing many characters to the edge.

At the same time, Che and Empress Seda head into an ancient forest in search of forgotten magic and the power behind Argastos. Their competing quests pull them through mysterious, dangerous, and increasingly uncanny terrain, where old lore, hidden forces, and personal rivalry shape the outcome.

As the two strands move toward convergence, betrayals, deaths, and revelations intensify the pressure on both sides. The book builds toward a bleak, high-stakes turning point that leaves the larger conflict unsettled and sets up the final volume.
