Kricket Hollowell has spent years surviving on her own in Chicago, hiding from social services while waiting to turn eighteen. She knows she is different in ways she can’t fully explain, and her life changes when strangers who seem to know more about her than she does come looking for her.

After Kricket is taken from Earth, she is pulled into Ethar, a world tied to her own hidden heritage. There she learns that her gifts, her ancestry, and her very existence matter to powerful factions, while she must decide whom to trust among the men sent to bring her home.

As political conflict builds between competing groups, Kricket moves through danger, unfamiliar customs, and a tense relationship with Trey, the mission leader who becomes increasingly protective of her. With others wanting to claim or use her, she has to fight for her own future and figure out where she truly belongs.
