More about this book

The Story

Rosi and the other children have spent their lives in Fredtown, raised by kindly adults called the Freds and taught to value peace, respect, and nonviolence. Then they are suddenly told they must return to the parents and hometown they barely remember.

Back in their birth town, nothing matches what they were taught. The children face fear, cruelty, prejudice, and a community that refuses to explain what happened or why they were taken away in the first place. Rosi, as one of the oldest children, tries to protect her younger brother Bobo and help the others adjust.

As Rosi investigates the truth behind Fredtown and her new home, the mystery deepens and the danger grows. Answers arrive late, changing everything she thought she knew and leaving the larger story unsettled as the series continues.
