Mercy is a high-ranking leopard changeling who feels the pressure of being unmated, while Riley is a wolf lieutenant tied to a rival pack. They already know how to push each other’s buttons, and when attraction turns physical, neither one can easily ignore it.

Their relationship is complicated by pack politics, dominance struggles, and the fact that each belongs to a different group with its own loyalties and expectations. As they try to figure out whether a mating is even possible, they keep being drawn together through work and chemistry.

At the same time, the wider conflict in the series deepens. A changeling researcher is kidnapped, the human faction becomes more active, and dangerous events around the Psy and changeling communities hint at larger conspiracies and future upheaval.
