Ash and Natalie are trying to build a life together when the government of the United Sentry States escalates its campaign against Darklings and other dissenters. Ash is forced into an impossible choice when Purian Rose threatens Natalie’s life unless he supports a law that would send entire groups to a deadly camp.

Instead of yielding, Ash, Natalie, and Elijah set out to find a weapon that might bring down Rose for good. The search pushes them out of Black City and into a dangerous run through hostile territory, where rebels, soldiers, and hidden agendas keep closing in.

As the journey continues, old wounds, mistrust, and attraction complicate the mission. The group faces betrayals, shifting loyalties, and revelations about the conspiracy behind the uprising, ending on a major cliffhanger that leaves the larger conflict unresolved.
