More about this book

Story

On the eve of her 40th birthday, Alice is taking stock of her life while facing her father’s serious illness and wondering what might have been different. After a night out, she wakes up back in 1996 as her 16-year-old self, with her adult memories intact.

As Alice moves between 1996 and her future life, she revisits her family, friendships, and old choices with new perspective. The time travel gives her repeated chances to experience her father when he is younger and healthier, and to see her own teenage years differently.

The story follows Alice as she tries to understand what can and cannot be changed, and what matters most in the life she is living. Her attempts to alter the future keep circling back to questions of love, grief, regret, and how to carry on in the present.
