More about this book

Story

In a small New England town, Jamie Morton meets a young minister, Charles Jacobs, whose charisma, faith, and fascination with electricity transform the community. A tragedy drives Jacobs away, but the encounter leaves a lasting mark on Jamie’s life.

As Jamie grows up, he becomes a musician and struggles with addiction, while his path keeps crossing Jacobs’s over the years. Each reunion pulls Jamie deeper into Jacobs’s increasingly strange ambitions around healing, religion, and the power behind electricity.

Spanning decades, the story follows Jamie’s life through family, music, loss, and recovery until the relationship between the two men leads to a final, unsettling revelation about death and what may lie beyond it.
