More about this book

Story

Mae Holland lands a coveted job at a sprawling, elite internet company called The Circle after a friend helps her get in. At first, the campus life, perks, social energy, and culture of constant participation make the place feel like the opportunity of a lifetime.

As Mae becomes more involved, the company’s push for online identity, public accountability, and nonstop sharing grows more intense. Her private life shrinks, her role becomes more visible, and she is drawn into increasingly public experiments in transparency and surveillance.

What starts as a career breakthrough becomes a test of how much privacy, autonomy, and dissent a person can keep. The narrative follows Mae’s deepening commitment to the company while raising questions about technology, control, and the costs of collective visibility.
