More about this book

The Story

Kyle Straker records his account on cassette tapes after a community talent show goes horribly wrong. What begins as an ordinary village event becomes an uncanny mystery when he and a few others wake to find everyone else changed, unresponsive, or behaving in ways that make no sense.

As Kyle tries to understand whether the hypnosis act caused the disturbance, he discovers that phones, televisions, computers, and other technology no longer work normally. The story is mediated through later transcription and editorial notes from a future audience, which adds commentary, explanations, and another layer of strangeness.

Kyle and the other survivors search for answers while the world around them becomes increasingly alien and threatening. The narrative withholds key explanations until late in the book, building suspense around what happened, what people have become, and what Kyle’s place in that changed world really is.
