Christopher lives with an engineer and a close-knit group of mechanical companions in an alternate Britain where robots are tightly regulated. When an accident exposes a secret about Christopher himself, his world is overturned and he is taken away.

His mechanical friends set out on a rescue mission, crossing a dangerous landscape and seeking help from powerful engineers and other uneasy allies. As the journey unfolds, loyalties are tested and the group learns more about Christopher’s origin and the rules governing their world.

The story builds toward a confrontation that forces characters to confront questions about humanity, soul, memory, and what makes a family. Along the way, the narrative alternates between peril, discovery, and emotional revelations, with a darker edge beneath the adventure.
