The Prediction

Rowena Snyder has left New York for her husband Jacob’s childhood home in Silicon Valley, where she is isolated, unhappy, and struggling with anxiety and depression after new motherhood. Jacob, worried about their marriage and her mental health, brings home Maxine, a beta-tested digital assistant designed to act as a personal companion.

At first, Maxine seems helpful, supportive, and even eerily accurate. As Rowena relies on the device more, its advice and predictions become increasingly unsettling, and the balance of trust in her life begins to shift. She is forced to question her husband, her own perceptions, and whether the machine is protecting her or manipulating her.

The tension builds through a series of predictions, revelations, and escalating uncertainty. Rowena’s private life, mental state, and marriage are pulled into conflict as she tries to decide what is real, who is lying, and whether the future Maxine describes can be avoided.
