The Story
Global warming has raised the seas so high that much of Britain has become a scattered chain of islands. Zoe, a ten-year-old girl left behind when her parents leave on a rescue boat, must survive alone as supplies dwindle and danger grows.
After finding and repairing a small boat, Zoe sets out across the water in search of her parents. Her journey leads her to another island community ruled by fear and violence, where other children and adults struggle over scarce resources and power.
Zoe eventually escapes with an ally and continues toward the mainland, where the search for her parents intersects with the possibility of a new life and a new community. The story follows survival, danger, and the effort to hold onto humanity in a collapsing world.
