Months after the empire’s fall, Amaranthe, Sicarius, and their allies are trying to settle into life under the new republic. A tropical getaway is cut short when they’re summoned home to deal with trouble in the capital.

Back in the city, a strange invasive threat is spreading through the harbor and endangering the new government. The situation pulls together returning favorites and several newer voices as they each confront separate pressures, personal changes, and unfinished business.
