The Story
Elizabeth Lavenza, desperate to escape abuse and poverty, is taken into the Frankenstein household as a companion for their lonely son Victor. What looks like rescue becomes a new kind of dependence as Elizabeth learns to survive by becoming indispensable, masking her true motives behind sweetness and obedience.
As Elizabeth grows up, her bond with Victor turns increasingly toxic and obsessive. When Victor leaves and then goes missing, Elizabeth follows his trail, moving through a gothic world of hidden laboratories, secrets, and mounting dread while flashbacks reveal how the relationship was built.
The story gradually shifts from intimate psychological tension to darker revelations about Victor’s work and Elizabeth’s own role in the horror around her. The narrative culminates in a twist-heavy final act and an ending that many readers found divisive, with an epilogue that some felt changed the emotional impact of the conclusion.
