The Story

An American family travels to rural Ireland for a vacation, hoping for a quiet break from their busy, tech-filled lives. Soon after they arrive, a catastrophic incident knocks out communications, electricity, and transportation, leaving them stranded in a remote cottage.

As supplies dwindle and the world around them becomes increasingly dangerous, the family must learn unfamiliar survival skills and rely on each other, their neighbors, and the land itself. They face starvation, fear, and hostile people who exploit the breakdown of order.

The story follows their attempts to adapt to a stripped-down existence and protect one another as the wider crisis deepens. Their ordeal becomes both a test of survival and a forcing of family change, with the book ending in a way that leads into later installments.
